About Us

We are the parents of four children. And, with each of our children we wanted a unique cute name for our newborn that reflected the individuality of our child. We had three boys and one girl. So we have had practice naming children!

With each pregnancy the question was always asked, "What are you going to name the baby?" Many times people suggested baby names to us. While many of them were cute, we always struggled with choosing a name that distinguishes our newborn. A name that was original and one that had special meaning to our child.

We did not want names that were common, nor did we want names that could be nicknamed. Our children were unique, and each one is special - we wanted their name to be a reflection of their uniqueness.

Nicknames can be confusing. An example is Catherine. A wonderful name, but all through my life I have had nicknames, different spellings and wrong identification. Nicknames such as, Cathy, Cathie, Kate. And spellings such as Kathy, Cathie, Kathryn. We did not want our children to encounter this.

Our children are now in their twenties and at different times in their lives the question did come up, how did you choose our name. And for each of our children we have a story to tell for how they were named. Each story is special to that child, and holds meaning for them.

And it is not only their first names they want to know about, we found our kids also wanted to know how we got their middle name. We can remember when we decided on a first name, then only to face the challenge of what will the baby's middle name be. But, for each middle name we gave the name lots of thought and they all have meaning.

We have handwritten journals where we developed many names for our children before we choose the one for our new little one. Recently a friend of ours was expecting their first child and they were really having a tough time deciding on a name. We lent them our journals and they poured over them. They said to us, you should develop a web site to share these names, and develop a program that helps new parents come up with a name that has meaning. So, what you are now seeing is a result of our friends suggestion.

We also hope to be grandparents (not that we are old, we had our children young!). So we have developed this site and our program to help our children when the day comes that they face the joy of expecting a new child.
